Single Origin Coffee Description

The Rianjagi Factory is a proud cornerstone of the Rianjagi Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS), a farmer-led organisation committed to producing exceptional coffee while prioritising social, economic, and environmental responsibility. Located in the heart of Embu, in Kenya’s south, the factory collaborates with smallholder farmers who tend coffee gardens of just 200–300 trees each. Farmers companion plant coffee with crops like maize and beans, nurturing biodiversity while supplementing their livelihoods.

The Embu area benefits from rich volcanic soils and a moderate climate, both ideal for cultivating the SL28 and SL34 varietals, known for their deep root systems and resilience in challenging conditions. Farmers here also grow newer cultivars like Batian and Ruiru 11, prized for their disease resistance and early yields.

At the factory, quality is a priority. Farmers handpick only the ripest cherries, which are inspected before processing. The fully washed method used at the Rianjagi washing station enhances the coffee’s clarity and brightness. Cherries are pulped, fermented for 12–16 hours, and washed in fresh water. The parchment coffee is then dried on raised beds, where it is monitored and raked over for uniform drying.

Rianjagi AB is C.A.F.E. Practices certified, ensuring adherence to rigorous ethical sourcing standards. This certification promotes economic transparency by verifying payments throughout the supply chain, guaranteeing fair compensation for farmers. It upholds social responsibility by safeguarding workers' rights, enforcing fair wages, and prohibiting child labor. Environmental leadership is prioritised through sustainable farming practices that protect water quality, preserve biodiversity, and ban forest conversion. Finally, a commitment to quality supports farmers with premiums above market prices for exceptional, ethically sourced coffee.

This release is a celebration of the bold, juicy flavours and crisp acidity that define Kenyan coffee. With its yellow peach sweetness, milk chocolate mouthfeel, and lime citrus finish, Rianjagi AB delivers a cup that is as complex as it is delicious.
