The Chemex has more fans, and more devoted ones, than just about any other alternate brewing method in the book. Once you've tried one, you'll see why.
Invented by chemist Peter Schlumbohm to improve the standard drip-filter coffee of the time, Chemex coffeemakers entered the brewing world in the late 1940s. Each one is hand blown from heat-resistant Pyrex glass, and short of a drop kick or bar fight, they're indestructible. The conical shape of the top portion of the carafe, together with the unique Chemex paper filters, removes sediment, oils, and fats from your final cup so there is no bitterness, no grounds, just a perfect cup of coffee every single time. The narrow neck of the carafe fits your hand perfectly and protects it from the hot surface by a band of wood secured with a leather strap, and a subtle groove molded in the glass serves as a spout. Just remove the filter and grounds in one disposable package and your brewer becomes your carafe.
Really the complete package for home brewing, the Chemex ticks every box. It's smart, simple, beautiful, easy to use, lasts a lifetime, and makes delicious coffee just the way you like it.
Few products in this century can match the flawless blend of design and functionality that the Chemex represents. Its visual elegance has won it a slew of prizes, seen it chosen by the Illinois Institute of Technology as one of the 100 best designed products of modern times and even earned it a place in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
Padre loves, uses, and recommends the Chemex, but if that isn't enough for you: so does James Bond. Seriously.

Our favourites for Chemex are bright and fruity and we've had fantastic coffees from Kenya, Mexico, Ethiopia and Panama that were pretty much made for it. Check our single origin listing to see what's in season.
