Once again, we have joined forces with The Gitesi Project as part of our Good Coffee Doing Good initiative in 2023. For this campaign, we secured nearly half a tonne of exquisite Rwandan coffee and committed to donate $10 per kilo of green coffee.
With the support of our amazing Padre customers, we sold the entire Gitesi lot, resulting in a total donation of $4800!
The Gitesi Project, founded in 2015 by Aime Gahizi and Tim Williams, places dairy cows with coffee farming families in Rwanda. Tim, a coffee industry veteran and founder of Fieldwork Coffee, recognized the vulnerability of farmers' incomes and the imbalanced supply chain after a shipment of coffee from Gitesi was damaged.
The project was conceived as a non-coffee-related way to support farmers. Operating as a Girinka Program, the project aligns with the Rwandan government's initiative to improve malnutrition rates by providing cows, which also symbolises prosperity and appreciation in Rwandan culture.
We are proud to be a part of improving the lives of Rwandan families through The Gitesi Project for the third year running. Our donation equates to three dairy cows, and health insurance for approximately 20 people.
